Nar Phu Valley Overview & Highlights

The Nar Phu Valley Trek takes you into one of the most remote and culturally distinctive corners of the Annapurna region. This 12-day journey begins and ends in Kathmandu and explores the hidden valleys of Nar and Phu, which remained closed to foreign trekkers until recent decades and still require a special restricted area permit.

From the Marsyangdi valley the trail turns north into a narrow gorge, climbing past forests, waterfalls and cliffs to the high villages of Meta, Phu and Nar. The landscape becomes dry and windswept, with stone houses, prayer flags, chortens and mani walls reflecting the strong Tibetan influence.

A rest day at Phu (4,080 m) allows time to explore the village and its ancient monastery, enjoy views of the mountains and acclimatize before the demanding crossing of Kang La Pass (5,320 m) to Ngawal.

After the pass, the trek continues to Manang, with views of Annapurna II, Annapurna III and Gangapurna. The journey concludes with a drive to Besisahar and Pokhara before returning to Kathmandu.
