In 1973, at just 17 years, 6 months, and 15 days old, Shambhu achieved the unthinkable: he reached the summit of Mount Everest, the highest peak in the world, as part of a massive Italian expedition of 64 members supported by 100 Sherpas. Although he inscribed his name in the record books as the youngest person to reach the Everest summit at that time, Shambhu’s motivations were pure. “I wasn’t after the record,” he would later reflect. “I was simply drawn to the mountain, seduced by its mystique from those first encounters.”
